Executive Director

For more than 27 years, Vancouver Asian Heritage Month Society (VAHMS) has worked closely with local Asian-Canadian communities and organizations that support our vision of becoming the main hub for celebrating Asian-Canadian arts and culture in the Metro-Vancouver area.

The Executive Director (ED) is a part-time contract, starting in January 2025, that involves managing the administrative and operational tasks of VAHMS and explorASIAN Festival. The ED reports directly to the President of the Board.

Key responsibilities:
– Managing all VAHMS communications
– Attending meetings as required
– Managing relationships with community and media partners/sponsors
– Supporting resource development including grant writing
– Producing timelines and budgets for all festival operations
– Booking speakers, performers, and subcontractors
– Recruiting and onboarding new volunteers
– Supporting social media and website content

Qualifications:
– Bachelor’s degree in related area (master’s degree preferred)
– Experience in nonprofit arts administration and knowledge of Asian Canadian arts and culture
– Excellent knowledge about grants and grant writing skills
– Exceptional interpersonal communication skills
– Experience with event planning and on-site project coordination
– Experience with IT for a range of applications
– Strong work ethics and organizational abilities, including prioritizing, delegating, and task facilitation
– Excellent judgement and problem-solving skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution
– Passion for intercultural community building, social justice, and anti-racism

Compensation:
$35 per hour with a minimum of 10 hours of work per week; additional hours could be available as needed, especially during the explorASIAN Festival. The initial contract is for 6 months with the potential to be renewable.
