CELIA LEUNG
PAINTER & CALLIGRAPHER
Celia Leung has admired Chinese Art since she was a child. Since 1998, she has been learning alongside her sister and brother from Professor Yukman Lai who taught them his studies of three traditional art techniques – Chinese calligraphy, Chinese painting, and stone-seal carvings. Celia has exhibited at the Asian Centre Auditorium of UBC, the Vancouver Point Grey, Lions Charity Art Sale at Blue Lotus Art Gallery, and throughout the years at the Annual Exhibition of Chinese Canadian Artists Federation.

Esmie Gayo McLaren
VISUAL ARTIST
Esmie Gayo McLaren is a Filipino-Canadian visual artist based in Vancouver, BC. Using acrylics, oils, or watercolours, she paints everyday life scenes by emotive use of color and light. She earned BSc in Biology/Psychology from the University of Alberta and artistic training froms Emily Carr University. Highlights of her exhibitions are milestone achievements in 2018: “Expanding Horizons”, a solo exhibit in New York City, and “Essence”, a small-group exhibit she presented to empower women held both at Art Space in North Vancouver and at the Philippine Embassy in Ottawa.

Jace Junggyu Kim
PAINTER
Jace Junggyu Kim is a Canadian painter based in Surrey and Burnaby, BC. He was born and raised in Korea until the age of 15. He graduated from Emily Carr University of Art and Design with a bachelor’s degree in Media art (animation). He worked in various game and motion graphic companies as a digital artist / animator, but he made a passionate transition to become a traditional painter. Creating most of the tension between the figurative and the abstract, his expression on canvas arises from combination of various artistic materials; oil, acrylic, ink, spray paint, etc.

Jeremiah Mari Carag
OPERA SINGER
Jeremiah Mari Gan Carag (he/him) is an interdisciplinary artist and educator living on unceded Coast Salish territories. Born and raised in Manila, Philippines, he received his artistic training in opera performance at UBC under the tutelage of J. Patrick Raftery and Peter Barcza. His artistic practice is community-based and rooted in the Filipino experience back home and in the diaspora. The Filipino music genre called Kundiman is his primary medium of storytelling.

LIANA TANG
AUTHOR/WRITER
Liana Tang was born and raised in Hong Kong, she is a teen writer who has been published or is forthcoming in 60+ publications. She is the co-author of a YA novel, a professional screenwriter for several feature films coming out in 2024 and 2025, and a university guest lecturer. She has recently been invited to Vancouver for a book event and accepted into a Paris writing workshop, and her works have been translated into Chinese.

Marzieh Mosavarzadeh
visual artist and educator
Marzieh Mosavarzadeh, an Iranian-Canadian visual artist and educator, resides on the ancestral lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Səl̓ílwətaʔ (Tsleil-Watuth), and Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) Nations in Vancouver, BC. Her work as an immigrant artist and educator intertwines with exploring artmaking’s potentialities through the act of walking through place(s), fostering a sense of belonging. Currently pursuing a doctoral degree in art education at UBC, Marzieh delves into how such artistic practices shape our understanding of place.

Michelle Kwan
trailblazing musician
Michelle Kwan born and raised in Vancouver, Canada, she can her musical journey on the 21 harped stringed Chinese harp at a young age. She is a trailblazing musician who blends traditional Chinese harp with both Asian and Western influences. With millions of views on YouTube, she’s redefining the boundaries of the ancient instrument. Her guzheng covers has been featured on Guitar World, Global TV, CBC and Huffington Post. She is also a guzheng teacher who is passionate about teaching students the art of playing the Chinese harp.

Ramneet Kaur

Ramneet Kaur is a visual artist from Punjab, India who works primarily in drawing, textile, and installation. Kaur holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Government College of Art, Chandigarh (2019) and a Masters of Fine Arts from the University of British Columbia (2023). She has exhibited works at Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery, AHVA Gallery, UBC (Vancouver) and in numerous group exhibitions in India.

Tanya Banerjee
multi-genre writer
Tanya Banerjee is a multi-genre writer born in India, raised in the U.S., and based in Vancouver, B.C. She was shortlisted for the 2020 Orwell Dystopian Short Story Prize; a 2022 Playwrights’ Gym participant at Green Thumb Theatre; a 2023 VIWFF Screenplay Competition semi-finalist; a 2023 ArtStarts Explores workshop leader; and a 2023 Block A participant at Playwrights Theatre Centre. In November 2023, Tanya released All the Fun Times, a self-produced album of nine original songs. She holds an MFA in Creative Writing from UBC and an MA in Prose Fiction from UEA. You can find Tanya writing, making and listening to music, reading, and drinking mochas, often simultaneously at a café.

Yuan Wen
Artist
Yuan Wen is an artist who completed her Visual and Creative Arts studies at Chongqing Technology and Business University. She moved to Canada in 2009 and gained a Graphic Design Diploma at Mohawk College. Recently, she achieved a bachelor’s degree in visual arts from Emily Carr University and is currently studying in the MFA program at UBC. Wen’s artistic interests lie in printmaking, drawing, and new media. She has exhibited her work in various exhibitions across British Columbia and Ontario.
